Virgin Islands Jobs on the Net!

If you are wondering about the job market and what its like down here, in the US Virgin Islands, then you should check out our newest project, Career.VI. Finally a Virgin Islands based job website to fill that niche. Career.VI has managed to make the Virgin Islands job market go global on the WWW.

Why Career.VI? Well, when I first moved here, I was frustrated that I couldn't even begin job searching until I got to island. To research jobs down here, I could have swore there were NO JOBS! The local paper has classifieds (but doesn't post them online)and there is an online newspaper with a few classifieds, but only a few. The national search engines only bring up a handful of jobs, mostly military positions. So what's the option? Have someone mail you the classifieds daily? Wait until you get here and then you must stop by the Dept of Labor or you can spend endless amounts of time researching individual companies with offices in the Virgin Islands.

Career.VI is a new resource for employers to get qualified candidates for their open positions, locally or from Stateside. Think about it, if you are a Virgin Islander and you are in school in the States, this site allows you to apply for positions that you couldn't apply for before because you had to be present in the VI in order to even apply and then return for the interview. Career.VI saves you a step!!!

Marketing of Career.VI is going really well. We have partnered with Isle 95 and created "Job or No Job" tip of the day on the radio. We have become a facebook member and a Hi5 member and continue to increase our network circles everyday. Everyday, new employers are posting their jobs. Career.VI has been endorsed from quite a few Senators and the Governor to post all government jobs on there.

So, if you are in the market for an island job in the Caribbean, go to http://www.career.vi/ . I think this is a great project and can't wait to see it expand to all the island countries!

Solar Delivered

Solar Delivered is a new company with great new products for the Virgin Islands. Solar Delivered provides custom commercial and residential alternative energy solutions. They design, develop and install the systems to meet each customers unique need. We are pleased to help them market their products and think this website will take their business further in the Caribbean solar power market.

Kelly came to us looking for a web system that he could manage with a custom design. He was involved with the VI Farmers Cooperative website and knew us from that project, so he knew our skillset. His own computer skills are good, allowing him to understand the need for a self-managed website with a content management system. He even has some graphics skills. Kelly and I worked together to create the exact system for him and we also created a system that would allow him to expand with his business.

Kelly's project was designed with his photos and client images of his work. The template went through a number of drafts before we found the perfect design. The CMS is really cool and Kelly can manage it himself. Everytime Kelly creates a new product, the system generates three pages an informational page, FAQ section and photo gallery for that product. So as Kelly's business expands, so can his website.

I haven't heard from him in about a week, which I think means that he has gotten the hang of the system, but of course, I am always here to help him if he has trouble loading images or finds a bug in the system after it launches.
